Where Nanyang's Minerals Stand in the World
Water-based coatings rest on two minerals more than any others: heavy calcium carbonate, which gives a film its body, whiteness and opacity, and natural colored sand, which gives a stone finish its color. Nanzhao County, in Nanyang, Henan, is a major production area for both — and it is the grade of the ore as much as the volume that sets the district apart.
Nanzhao is one of China's four major heavy calcium carbonate (GCC) bases, alongside Haicheng in Liaoning, Qingyang in Anhui and Hezhou in Guangxi, and the largest calcium carbonate cluster in central China — known domestically as the "Calcium Capital of the Central Plains". It holds around 1 billion tons of calcite, 600 million tons of it exploitable, with CaCO3 content of up to 98% and whiteness of 92–95. More than 260 processing plants turn out over 13 million tons of powder a year. The coatings industry has followed the feedstock here: Nippon Paint, SKSHU and Oriental Yuhong all operate in the district.
The district's second asset is its colored sand, quarried from marble and granite rather than manufactured. Its color is intrinsic to the stone rather than applied as a dye or pigment, so it does not fade under UV or bleed in the rain — the failure that limits most stone-effect finishes. The grain runs at Mohs 7, and it is large-scale, carefully sorted quarrying that keeps the shade consistent from batch to batch, which is what has historically held natural sand back. Five of our own lines are built on it: Natural Stone, Granite Texture, Mineral Sand, Crystal Diamond and Texture.
Because GRC owns both the mine and the factory, that endowment flows straight into every batch we make: stable supply, consistent color and a genuine cost advantage — no middlemen, no external raw-material risk.
